Which Is the Best London Airport?

People considering a trip to the city of London for the first time often wonder which of London’s 5 major airports (Heathrow, Luton, Stansted, City Airport, and Gatwick) is the best in terms of convenience and easy access to the city.
Well, the answer isn’t so simple and often the choice may ultimately be dictated by where you’re flying in from and whether or not you use a budget or major airline. Sprawling Heathrow Airport is not most people’s idea of a well-laid out or easy to use facility, but when it comes to amenities, fast connections to the city and choices among the hotels Heathrow Airport has on offer, it can sometimes be the best option.

Airports such as Luton may be much easier to navigate, but all the London airports offer public transportation to the city, nearby hotel facilities, so it’s often a toss-up in terms of which is the best choice. One other factor, of course, is proximity to whichever part of the city you are planning to visit. If you plan on attending an event at the O2 or doing business in the Canary Wharf district, City Airport is a logical choice, but offers less overall flight options than Gatwick or Heathrow.

It can be very convenient, especially when taking an early flight out of the city, to stay at one of the airport hotels. Getting to any of the London airports in time for an early flight can be an expensive and rather daunting undertaking. All the airports offer nearby hotels, and a night spent in one of the London Heathrow or London Gatwick airport hotels can make for a much less stressful trip. So, obviously, there is no one London airport that suits everyone’s needs, as a number of factors will usually end up determining your individual choice.
