Dusseldorf’s Top 3 Pubs

Located in the west of Germany, Dusseldorf is famous for its important role in European business and commerce. Over a million people visit the city each year to stay in a Dusseldorf trade fair hotel, and here they attend some of the largest trade fairs held anywhere in the world.

If you’re visiting Dusseldorf on business though, try and take at least one evening off – this fascinating old city boasts a lively local culture, and a great selection of pubs and bars! Here’s a quick rundown of the top three places to visit, if you manage to spare an evening in the city:

1. Zum Füchsen

The name of this charming bar translates as ‘little fox’, and here you’ll be able to enjoy a great selection of traditional Rhenen food and drink. Try the marinated pork pot-roast, served here with potato dumplings, sauerkraut and apple sauce! You can also try Dusseldorf’s famous Altbier on a visit to Zum Füchsen, or even the herbal liqueur known as ‘Killepitsch’. The bar opened in 1848, and since then has been a popular haunt amongst the locals.

3. Uerige

Another bar originally opened in the 19th century, Uerige features an on-site brewery, where the proprietors produce a fantastic array of hearty beers and stouts. Altbier is always available on tap, and some of the other exciting brews to be offered at Uerige include their wheat beer known as Weizenbier, a range of fruit beers, and the extra strong Sticke – which is brewed specially in January and October.

2. Zum Schlüssel

If you’re hoping to get away from the uniform international cuisine served at many Dusseldorf trade fair hotels, then head to Zum Schlüssel to try out some of the local delicacies! This late 19th century pub offers a fantastic, home-cooked menu, including dishes such as roasted pork belly, beef fillets in horseradish, and the fantastic ‘Butcher’s Plate’: consisting of garlic sausages, black pudding, bacon, Weißwurst and mashed potatoes!
