Experience the chills and thrills of wonderful Edinburgh

Edinburgh winters may be freezing and battered by swirling snow but for a winter break, it’s a city that can’t be beat. If you’re thinking about booking up a mini break or weekend trip to the city, this is the time to do it. There are so many amazing things to see and do, whether you visit for the world’s biggest new year’s street party, Hogmanay, or book yourself something exciting to look forward to in the new year. You can spend a day wandering around the Winter Wonderland, which opens in late November and runs until early January – the wonderland hosts Europe’s biggest outdoor ice rink meaning ice skating fans can whizz about the ice in front of the gorgeous backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. There’s also a German Christmas market great for kids, where you’ll find delicious sweet treats, more sausages than you can shake a stick at and some cute German stocking fillers for Christmas Day.

After all that action in the brisk cold, you need to have a hotel to return to. Try an Edinburgh Hilton hotel for a taste of luxury and a fabulous choice of locations, whether it’s in front of the castle itself, in the city’s west end or, if you’re having a flying visit, at the airport. Edinburgh Hilton hotels are particularly good if you’re on a romantic break, with their gorgeous restaurants and classy bars, not to mention the indoor pool and spa. You could also try the Murrayfield Hotel, situated next to Murrayfield Stadium on the West side of Edinburgh. This 3* hotel is a bus ride away from the city’s attractions and is home to a popular bar and restaurant where you can enjoy a hot whiskey after your busy day exploring the sights before heading out for a night in Edinburgh’s city centre.
